A native of the Eastern Caribbean island of Trinidad, Lance began playing the congas and other percussion at an early age. Having truly captured the rhythms by age 9, his musical training expanded to the Steel Pan, the national instrument of his homeland. In short time after learning the pan, he joined a nationally recognized Steel Drum band and was competing at “Carnival” in the capital city of Port of Spain.
In his teens, Lance followed his family to the Twin Cities and joined Shangoya, a Minneapolis based soca band fronted by fellow Trinidadian Peter Nelson. Shangoya was a Midwest staple touring throughout the surrounding states. Not only did he play the pans and percussion during his stint with Shangoya, he ultimately ended up on as the primary drummer in the band. In 2010, Lance was inducted into the Mid West Music Hall of Fame for his work with Shangoya.
In addition to his work with Shangoya, Lance played drums with other reggae bands including Les Exodus, Innocent, The Maroons and Rhythm 360. He continues work on his primary love, the steel pans with a steel drum duo called Pan Dimensions.
Lance is a crucial drummer and works seamlessly with bass player Onesmo to keep the driving beat of the soca sounds in step for the Socahalix.
